3. The EOI Selection Pool
Every fortnight the New Zealand Immigration Service works through the Expression of Interests received starting at the highest point scores and working down until that fortnight’s quota is met.
Those applicants with 140+ points are automatically selected. Those with 100-135 points with a job offer are then next to be selected. Next are those with bonus points for a qualification or work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage. Those without job offers or bonus points are last to be selected. In practice, a person on 100 points with a job offer is in the same position as a person on 200 points with no job offer!
EOIs selected are then subjected to an initial verification and a high proportion are rejected at this point due to incorrectly claiming of points. If the EOI survives this scrutiny, the applicant is then given an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residency which is when all supporting paperwork must be produced. Again, many applications fail at this point for inability to produce the correct documentation or to meet the full criteria.
At Compass, we make sure you are eligible and that all paperwork is in order before submitting an EOI. If a job offer is necessary to your application, we can help you find that job. In this way, you will save dollars and headache in submitting an EOI that is destined not to thrive.
