A UK World View

Lucy Hubble is fast approaching her 10th anniversary of being in New Zealand. Coming from rural South East England, close to the dreaming spires of Oxford & the Cotswolds, she is no stranger to stunning scenery, but instantly fell in love with the beauty & spaciousness of New Zealand.

Accompanying her Kiwi partner, who was returning home from his OE in time for the Millennium celebrations, she entered the country on a 6 month Visitors Visa. In the New Year it was time to apply for a Work Permit through the De-facto channel with NZ Immigration. After standing in endless queues, submitting unlimited paperwork proving their relationship & the most unsettling interview which may be better described as an interrogation, 6 months later she was presented with a Work Permit. She describes the whole process as a nightmare when she recalls the fear of being turned down & having to leave the country.

You can imagine the relief when she was finally granted an Indefinite Returning Residents Visa at the end of 2001!

Lucy worked as an Account Manager for 4 ½ years for a Veterinary Wholesale Company covering the Waikato & Bay of Plenty regions & jokes that she has seen more of New Zealand than many of her Kiwi friends! When it was time for a career change she made the move into IT Recruitment, dealing with many overseas applicants which she thoroughly enjoyed. Recently she joined our team at Compass.

Lucy’s own personal experiences & her knowledge of the Recruitment process has made her passionate about helping others to make the big move to New Zealand.
