The transition from South African to Kiwi
The grass IS greener....making the transition from South African to Kiwi.
Cherri Holland moved to New Zealand nearly 20 years ago, after spending a year in Australia. She grew up in “Shark country” – Durban, Kwazulu-Natal and then moved to Johannesburg where she worked in banking and insurance, (in HR) before leaving for greener pastures. She did not follow formal immigration procedures as at that time, there was an embargo against South Africa. She did it the hard way; it took about 4 years before she had any certainty about her status, and never knew if she would have to ship herself back to South Africa at any given moment!
Cherri is now self employed but she initially joined a New Zealand company where she worked for 15 years and where she became a director. During this time she was able to use many of the great and diverse business skills learned in South Africa.
She now works with many varied organisations in a consulting or contract managing capacity. She knows from experience how vital it is for new-comers to be able to hit the ground running and integrate immediately into the new society.
Cherri is passionate about helping South Africans move to New Zealand, this was her primary reason for joining the team at Compass. She wants the transition from SA to NZ to be as painless as possible and is on hand to provide valuable assistance, answers to questions or just share experiences.
